Killarney-Shebanoning Outdoor Environmental Education Centre
The Killarney-Shebanoning Outdoor Environmental Education Center through the leadership and guidance of Elder, Vince Pawis and the Sudbury Catholic Schools Aboriginal Advisory Committee is in the process of planning and implementing a traditional First Nations component.
Authentic student centered First Nations land teachings include:
-traditional teepee teachings (from the our western brothers),
-pipe ceremonies
-medicine wheel teachings
-sweatlodge ceremonies
-sunrise ceremonies
-drumming workshops
-traditional Native foods
-traditional medicines garden
We are currently working to build an authentic, hands-on living history experience for our students as day in the life of a Metis Voyageurî which includes traditional Metis clothing, foods, games, transportation and roles and responsibilities.
We are also planning an outdoor living history museum that will function as a working First Nation and historic Metis community.
Special thanks to Vince Pawis, Verna Hardwick, Clara Steele, Don Farquarson, Gina Tullio and the community of Killarney for without their never ending support, vision and hard work this project would have never gotten off the ground. Chi Miigwech!
